First worldwide infrared camera for temperature measurements in magnetic fields : PYROVIEW 640L-PMF by DIAS Infrared

It’s the first infrared camera worldwide for non-contact temperature measurement in strong permanent magnetic fields: PYROVIEW 640 L-PMF from DIAS Infrared. A very special challenging application is the temperature monitoring of critical components in strong permanent magnetic fields, e.g. in fusion plants or magnetic resonance tomography. The required thermal imaging technology will be presented by DIAS at the Hannover Messe fair from April 13-17, 2015.

The required thermal imaging technology will be presented by DIAS at the Hannover Messe exhibition from April 13-17, 2015. For reliable measurement results in this very challenging application field, DIAS has developed the infrared camera type PYROVIEW 640L-PMF. It’s the first infrared camera of this type worldwide and is designed for the use in strong permanent magnetic fields with a magnetic flux density up to three Tesla. Inter alia the robust camera is used at Max-Planck-Institute for Plasma Physics in Greifswald. There, it measures the temperature on the divertor baffles in an according the “Stellerator” principle working fusion plant. It belongs to the worldwide largest research centers of its kind.

Non-contact temperature measurement in strong magnetic fields

The infrared camera PYROVIEW 640L-PMF is based on an up-to-the-minute infrared detector with 640 x 480 pixels and has a Gigabit Ethernet interface. The whole infrared camera system also has been sold to Japan already. It’s working in LWIR (long wave infrared) spectral range and can measure temperatures up to 1800 °C.
The special wide-angle lens with a field of view of 116° x 82° enables the monitoring of all critical components. The signals are processed a PC, which is connected to the camera system. The camera system consists of a camera head and an electronics box. While the electronics box contains the magnetically sensitive electronic components and is arranged outside of the magnetic field, in the camera head, the optics, the infrared sensor and the specially designed for strong magnetic mechanical, pneumatic and electronic components arelocated. The camera head and the electronics meet the IP54 standard and thus protect the components from dirt and moisture.

Products and systems from DIAS are always used where reliable and accurate non-contact measurement of the temperature between -40 ° C and 3000 ° C for process control is necessary. So e.g. several international customers in the metal, glass and plastics industry trust the skills of developers and engineers from the German manufacturer, headquartered in Dresden.
